Project Description

A corollary to the group exhibition Maps and Dreams (Audain Gallery, June 1-July 29, 2017), this publication takes up conceptions and implications of land use through cultural and industrial lenses, specifically in relationship to the territory of the Dane-zaa people of northeastern British Columbia, now in Treaty 8. New texts by artist Brenda Draney, researcher Kate Hennessy, curator Candice Hopkins, curators Brian Jungen and Melanie O’Brian, and a reprinted chapter from Hugh Brody’s anthropological study Maps and Dreams connect the personal to regional and global contexts.

Curators of Maps and Dreams in conversation / Brian Jungen and Melanie O’Brian — Every territory is an island / Brenda Draney — Maps of dreams / Hugh Brody — Voices and the archive in Maps and Dreams / Kate Hennessy — The map is not the territory / Candice Hopkins.
