Tundra Depiction, Blossom, and Turning Point

Since the fall of 2015, at the age of 15, I have been leaving and visiting my home community for an education. The journey for each and every one of us is different, but what is unknown is what kind of people you’re going to meet, where your choices take you, or what rewards or consequences awaits. The artwork conveys a story of a journey of transition and adjustment. Each journey in life is full of hardships, perseverance, and commitment. Then it also comes with success and failure; but without them there would be no growth or change. Growth could mean getting a new job, starting a new school year, moving into a new house or apartment, and there are so many more opportunities for you and I.

Tundra Depiction

A piece depicting Christyn’s relation to homeland

Blossom

Turning Point

Christyn Koostachin is from Fort Severn First Nation, Ontario, and is a student at Confederation College. For the past few years, Christyn has been using visual arts as a strategy to cope and heal her mental health. Christyn particularly loves working with acrylic paints on canvas, but also enjoys working with sketches, photography, and watercolour paints. The representation behind the artworks tells a transition of leaving a small isolated town, and for reasons such as school, work, moving to a city, etc. Christyn depicts the undeniably difficult journey of the hardships between families, individuals, and being a student. Christyn also portrays that with honest work, comes great rewards.
