From Past to Present: ICCA’s Publishing Highlights

As our Publications Program comes to a close, I’m honoured to share a note of gratitude and reflection on our Digital Publications Program: Decolonizing Arts Publishing – A Creative Curatorial Platform, made possible through the Canada Council for the Arts’ Cultivate Grant.
Over the past three years, this initiative became a vibrant, Indigenous-led space for critical and creative writing, shaped by an extraordinary community of contributors. We extend our sincere thanks to writers, curators, and artists including Antonio Catrileo, Jason Baerg, Leah Decter, Cheryl L’Hirondelle, David Garneau, Peter Morin, Tarene Thomas, Michael Peterson, Manuel Carrión, Eva Grant, Joi Arcand, Feather Miigwaan, Daina Warren, Janine Windolph, Jennifer Smith, KC Adams, and Felicia Gay, alongside many others. The Creative Conciliations series, in particular, stands as a powerful example of what Indigenous-led critical publishing can be when it is grounded in care, relation, and intellectual sovereignty.
This work was strengthened through collaborations with Rungh Magazine, CARFAC Saskatchewan, Centre d’art daphne, Shushkitew Collective, Ociciwan Contemporary Art Centre, Urban Shaman, and Artexte. I’m also especially proud that this program allowed the ICCA to restore and make accessible past projects and writing by those who have contributed to the organization’s history, including longtime collaborators, former staff, and board members, ensuring this foundational work continues to inform the field. We are grateful to contributors such as France Trépanier, Heather Igloliorte, Barry Ace, Candice Hopkins, Ryan Rice, and Gloria Bell, among many others.
As this chapter concludes, we see this work as part of an ongoing continuum rather than an ending. We strongly encourage community members and institutional members to continue sharing exhibition catalogues, curatorial essays, reviews, documentation, and publishing projects with the ICCA, helping ensure Indigenous curatorial work remains visible, accessible, and archived for future generations. If you are not yet a member, we invite you to join the ICCA and support the Indigenous-led publishing spaces that make this work possible.

TTFN – Taa Taa For Now,

– Justine “Tini” Stilborn, Digital Programs Manager & Communications Manager
