King Charles III’s Coronation Medals

In recognition of exceptional contributions to the arts and Indigenous communities, the Indigenous Curatorial Collective / Collectif des commissaires autochtones (ICCA) is proud to celebrate our members who have been awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal.
This national honour commemorates the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, recognizing individuals who have made a significant impact in their region, community, or abroad in ways that bring pride to Canada. For ICCA, this award acknowledges the profound influence of Indigenous artists, curators, and cultural leaders whose work sustains, revitalizes, and advances Indigenous knowledge and expression across Turtle Island and beyond.
As a community partner to the Governor General’s office, the ICCA has been invited to submit 20 names for the King Charles III Coronation Medals. We are honoured to share that members of our community have been selected to receive the King Charles III Coronation Medal in recognition of their exceptional contributions to Indigenous arts, culture, and communities across Canada.
To mark the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, the Prime Minister announced in May 2023 the Government’s intention to award 30,000 Coronation Medals to individuals who have made significant contributions to their country, province, territory, region, or community, or whose achievements abroad have brought honour to Canada.
Created by His Majesty and administered by the Chancellery of Honours, this commemorative medal marks the Coronation on May 6, 2023. It serves as a tangible recognition of service, leadership, and dedication to sustainability, diversity, and cultural stewardship.
The medal honours outstanding individuals of all ages and backgrounds who have made a meaningful impact in their communities or through achievements that bring credit to Canada. Our shared sense of purpose as Canadians is strengthened when we collectively celebrate those who distinguish themselves through talent, generosity, and service.
We are proud to recognize today’s recipients for their invaluable contributions.
About the Medal
Administered by the Chancellery of Honours at Rideau Hall, the King Charles III Coronation Medal was created to mark the May 6, 2023 Coronation. The design, rich with symbolism, evokes celebration, unity, and the enduring cycles of the natural world—central to many Indigenous worldviews.
The medal’s reverse features 13 triangular shapes representing the provinces and territories in a circular form, echoing the importance of the circle in Indigenous teachings: equity, interconnection, and continuation.
